  1. OMG.. I'm an idiot....LOL I was sorta wondering what I should do with the "sections". New Plan: One file with "600 sections". (Not 600 files with "one section"). Yes, I think that's much better. Thanks!!
  2. Thanks Paul, I'm glad having that many INI files isn't a problem. Basically each INI file will be a "backup" of fields on a particular screen. And I will use the INI files to do a "quick restore" when I need to. (The reason that I even need to occasionally re-enter the same information is an annoying issue that I have no control over.)
  3. Cory, Ok, I'm going to find my Macro Express book and read about the registry commands. That's probably what I really need to use. In the past, I had tried saving to named environment variables, but it didn't work the way I wanted it to when I saved a variable that was blank. (when I retrieved the environment var, it would only return the actual name of the variable. (example: "%MyVarPhoneNum%"). Is the registry going to do the same thing? or will it actually store the blank value? Also, I played with the INI commands, and that is going to be great for something else that I've been trying to figure out how to do. Which leads me to another question. I'm probably going to end up with about 600 INI files in a folder. My question is this: Is it OK to have a bunch of INI files on my computer? I mean, my computer itself doesn't automatically look for INI files does it? (I'm questioning this because I read your "poo-poo'd" discussion where it explained that the registry is designed to replace INI files.) Thanks again! Doreen
  4. Paul, Thanks so much for telling me exactly where to put them in the registry. That's sorta been a big delimna in my brain. I'm going to re-do my macros. Because I think that the registry is really want I want. I'm tired of using the "Restoring" and "Saving" variables commands. My other concern with using the registry for my variables, is this. Is there ever any "invalid" characters that I might save to a registry variable, that might possibly be really bad for the registry? Examples: "{" "[" "|" "^" ??? Somehow it's in my brain that those could mess something up? Also, can I save an ASCII character to a registry variable? (Example: the TAB?) Yes, I'm a chicken.LOL Doreen
  5. Cory, Thank you so much. The "Output Macro Information" suggestion was perfect for what I needed. I didn't have too many names that I actually cared about, so I just jumped through the notepad using the "find" and found all the names that I was looking for. I put them in an Excel list now. Another question... Is there a way to view all the names of the "saved variables"? (Like I can when I've saved to an Environment Variable?) *(Someday I'll get up the nerve to learn how to use the registry variables. ) Thanks again! Doreen
  6. Hi, Is there a way that I can view all of my variable "names" that I have used in all of my macros? It seems like I should be able to just look them up somewhere here in MEP? I'm thinking that I could keep track of them in a popup text box.... But can I somehow "extract" all the names that I've already used in my previously completed macros? (without having to search through each macro individually?) Thank you in advance for any help. Doreen
  7. Thank you Linda & Kevin, I probably do have those 2 hotkeys assigned to some shortcut. I had already looked thru my 50ish shortcuts on my desktop. Can't find the hotkeys assigned to anything.... I guess I need to find out more about the utilities that can tell me where I have hotkeys assigned in XP. Thank you. Oh, heck maybe I'll just clean up my desktop, that'll probably fix my problem..... Thanks, Doreen
  8. Hello All, I can't get the hotkey Ctrl+Alt+L to activate any macros. I have Windows XP if that matters. Any ideas why it doesn't do anything? When I assign the hotkey to the macro, it shows in the list as an available global hotkey. BUT, It does not allow me to select it by actually typing the Ctrl+Alt+L (I actually have to select it with my mouse). So, I guess this means that it's not working even before I assign it to the activating Hotkey. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you! Doreen
  9. THANK YOU PETE !! It's perfect. Now I see the ASCII decimal codes in my Macro Express book. I have all kinds of new possibilities! ("new" for me, that is). Thanks for your help, Doreen
  10. Hello Everyone, I am trying to append a <TAB> to my text file. It just seems to me like it should be simple, but I cannot figure it out. Thanks in advance for anyone's help! Variable Modify String: Append %T2% to Text File ** (I want a <TAB> right here in my text file) ** Variable Modify String: Append %T3% to Text File Thank you, Doreen
  11. I like this forum, I can access it at anytime. I was not able to access the newsgroups when I am "on the job" connected thru VPN. So, I had to disconnect my VPN first, then go to my outlook express. Doreen
  12. I save the window title to variable, and then use an "If variable = "SAVE". I guess I could probably use an "If control focused" too.. haven't tried that yet though. Doreen
  13. Andy, Thank you! >Keep in mind that these Shortcut Keys will only work for Shortcuts >that are on the Desktop or in the Start Menu hierarchy. That sure explains alot! I added a hotkey to one of my Quicklaunch shortcuts, and it never would work...... Now, I get it. And Thank You very much for the "/n". I posted that question in the Word New User newsgroup you told me about. I'm going there now to see if you're right.... (LOL... like there's any doubt, huh!) Thanks for all your help, Doreen
  14. Andy, I can't believe how much I've learned now! I've never really paid any attention to that "shortcut key" line on my shortcut properties. Had no idea I could do that, I just tried it, and I can't beleive that I could have been launching that shortcut using a "text type" this whole time!!! Sometimes I feel like a real dingdong. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I'm going to stick with the "Launch Program" like Floyd showed me, cause at least I can view my list of Hotkeys in Macro Express. And I definitly need that Word Newsgroup, I'm headed there now. I'm trying to launch Word without any new document at all. I made it work on my Excel like that, but can't get it to work on Word. I'm quite sure that "I" am the problem...hahaha Thank You for your help! Doreen
