  1. I'm running ME3.8 on Windows 7. I tried to run a Control Panel Applet to control the sound. The Sound applet does not appear under the list in "Choose an applet" so I tried to Enter the Name of an applet. I tried "sound.cpl" which didn't work. I then searched for *.cpl and discovered all of the applets for control panel in windows/system32. None of the applets listed appear to be the sound applet, however. Does anyone know the exact name of the CP applet for opening the Sound Control? I'm stumped. Or, is there an easier way to use a macro to switch the sound Playback Device from Speakers to Headphones, etc. Thanks. M
  2. So, any file masks or wildcards are inserted in the "File(s) Path/Name" box on the File Manipulation window instead?
  3. When I use a wildcard in a "Delete File" command, and click OK, nothing happens. The "select files" window will not close. I can browse to a folder containing several files and, if I select one of the files in the folder, it will accept this command and when the macro is run, delete this file. If, however, I use a wildcard along with a partial file name or if I use "*.*", the "select files" window wont accept it. When I click OK, nothing happens. The window doesn't close until I select "Cancel" or until I select a file that is in the folder. There is some other odd behavior associated with this: After selecting one of the files in the folder and hitting "OK", I can then go to the "File Manipulation" window in ME and change the selected file name to *.* or any other wildcard combination and it will then work. I just cannot browse to the folder and use a wildcard. THere is more!!! After attempting to use wildcards in the "Select File" window, there will then be a diffence in the contents of the folder in this window compared to the same folder opened in an explorer window which is opened outside of ME. I can open the folder in explorer and it may have 3 files in it but in the "Select File" window in ME, it will have 2 files or maybe no files. (The File Types window shows "All Files"). Other times, there will be a huge number of files shown in the folder when viewed in the ME "Select File" window, but the actual folder, when viewed from explorer, will be empty. These inconsistencies are very random in nature and very unexpected. In summation, the only time this feature works as expected, is when I select a file that is actually in the folder, with no wild cards added. Otherwise, whenever a wildcard is used in anyway, some odd behavior takes place. If the file selected is"New Text Document (3).txt" and I add a wildcard such as "New Text Document *.txt" or "New Text Document (*).txt" or any other wildcard combination, including *.*, it goes crazy. When I do this and hit OK, it not only wont close the window but some of the files in the window will go away. I don't even have to run the macro! They just disappear right there in the "Select Files window". Except that they are really still there because I can close and reopen the window and they will be there again. As far as I know, other functions within ME are working as expected. I have uninstalled/reinstalled ME once, with no change in this behavior. If anyone has any idea as to what is going on here and what to do about it, I'd like to hear it. Thanks.
  4. In the first step of a macro, the "Program ShutDown" command is used to close MS Outlook. It works fine, however, it causes the "Send Error Report to Microsoft" screen to appear. I can work around this by first activating the Outlook window and shutting it down with keystrokes, but I'd rather use the "Program Shutdown" command. Any suggestions would be appreciated. M
  5. Well, I tried your suggestion and it worked great. Much better than what I had resorted to. Thanks
  6. I have a multiple choice menu with 5 choices. The first four choices allow the macro to continue based on the selected choice. When the 5th choice is selected, however, I would like to have the macro execute an action (a text box) and then go back to the original multiple choice menu, until one of the 1st four choices are made. The only way I have been able to do this is to copy the original multiple choice menu, remove the 5th choice, then put it at the end of the IF command for the 5th choice. This works ok, but it prevents the user from returning to the 5th choice more than once. I'm sure this can be done, I just need some help figuring it out. The 5 choices are 1 Reduce image by 10% 2 Reduce image by 20% 3 Reduce image by 30% 4 Reduce image by 40 % 5 Pause macro and read about reducing images. Thanks for any advise. I'll be continuing to try to figure this out .
  7. First of all, I probably know less about this than anybody, but here's what I discovered. I highlighted some text in notepad and purposefully included some leading and following blank spaces in the highlighted area. The Modify String Variable command has an "Option 2" tab, which allows you to Save to Clipboard or Save to Text File, plus some other options. In this macro, the Option 2 tab shows the Save to Clipboard button selected, leading me to think that the modification would update the information in the clipboard, removing the leading and trailing spaces, leaving only the text that was selected. If this is so, the macro should work as planned. Unfortunately, for me, the Modify String Variable - Trim command either did not "happen" or it was not saved to the clipboard as ordered, because it was sent to the dictionary website with the leading and following blank spaces still there. Fortunately, the MW website did not seem to mind. It ignored these blank spaces and gave a good definition anyway. I'm pretty sure there is something going on here that I don't understand. There usually is. Morgan
